Countable Nouns X Uncountable Nouns
Os substantivos contáveis são
facilmente reconhecidos:
(Cat – cats
/ Box – boxes / Fly – flies ( moscas );
A dog ( um cachorro ); An
Apple ( uma maçã );
3- Eles podem ser utilizados juntos aos
números.
Five cars ; Eleven dollars; Six
nights; Thousand cities.
4 - Não podemos escrever:
I want orange. Devemos escrever: I want an orange.
5 – Quando tiver um sentido geral
podemos nos expressar dessa forma:
I like oranges; Elephants are big animals.
Ex.:
Me dá dois
Give me two
liters of Milk ou Give me two bottles os Milk. Você não pode , simplesmente , pedir
Give me two milks. Isso não existe.
Há outras maneiras para expressarmos QUANTIDADE. Uma delas é SOME e ANY
que vocês já viram anteriormente.
I need some Milk.
I don´t need any milk.
Do you have any milk?
Would you like some milk?
Observe:
I need some rice. ( Preciso de arroz. )
Se eu disser “ Rice is delicious”. Essa informação está correta, pois
“rice” é considerado incontável;
Mas olhe a palavra feijão – bean
I love beans.
inicial. Então, dizemos: Beans are necessary in our diet, e
não “Bean is necessary”.
Então, inicialmente, o que podemos fazer é ver algumas listas do que é
incontável em Inglês para nos auxiliar.
·
music, art, love, happiness
·
advice, information, news
·
furniture, luggage
·
rice, sugar, butter, water
·
electricity, gas, power
·
money
Normalmente, tratamos
dos incontáveis no SINGULAR
·
This news is very important.
·
Your luggage looks heavy.
We do not usually use the indefinite article a/an with
uncountable nouns. We cannot say "an information" or "a
music". But we can say a something of:
Não usamos,
normalmente, o artigo indefinido A/AN com incontáveis. Utilizamos seus
“containers” ou uma medida.
·
a piece of news
·
a bottle of water
·
a grain of Rice
·
a pack of chocolate
·
a bar of chocolate
·
a bottle of perfume
·
a tub of margarine
·
a tube of toothpaste
·
a jar of jam
·
a loaf of bread; two
loaves of bread
Algumas vezes,
contexto. Observe:
Captain Hook crossed dangerous
waters in the Pacific.
There´s some water on the
floor.
I bought a new perfume.
In France, they produce exquisite perfumes.
Use some perfume after your
shower.
glass - Two glasses of water. (Countable) (copos)
A window made
of glass. (Uncountable) (vidro)
glasses -
I wear glasses. (Always plural)
(óculos)
